Transforming Education: iEARN Qatar's Innovative Approach to Engage Students in Real-World Problem Solving
Education and Training
•
Education Above All Foundation hosted the annual exhibition of school projects as part of the International Education and Resource Network (iEARN)-Qatar program.
The Fourth Assalam School hosted the showcase, presenting in-person and virtual projects from Qatar, Jordan, Lebanon, and Yemen. This event provided a platform for students and teachers to show their iEARN projects to a global audience.
Secretary General of the Qatar National Committee for Education, Culture, and Science Ali Abdul Razzaq Al Marafi and Executive Director of the ROTA Program Abdulla Al Abdulla attended to support the teacher
training education initiative. International representatives from UNESCO and UNICEF also attended to further align students and teachers with the United Nations.
With the past success, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education has commended the ROTA program and has endorsed ROTA's proposal to extend the programme to every school across Qatar.
iEARN Training Initiative
Over 30 teachers from Qatar, Tunisia, Lebanon, Yemen, and Jordan schools participated in Arabic iEARN training and workshops. After their training, teachers implemented iEARN-Qatar projects with their schools across the five countries. Participating schools from Qatar included: The First, The Second, and Fifth Assalam Schools, Al Ahnaf Bin Qays Boys, Al Bayan Second Primary School for Girls, Abdullah Bin Ali Al Misnad School for Boys, and Abdullah bin Turki Al-Subaie Preparatory School for Boys.
Teaching Sustainable Development Goals Through Project-Based Curriculums
The iEARN project aims to increase recognition of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals' global health, welfare, and sustainability issues. Teachers to receive the necessary training on each subject to provide students with engaging projects to work on real-world problems. Over 230 students presented their iEARN projects during the open house to create further awareness of pressing issues.
By integrating project-based learning, critical thinking, and international collaboration, iEARN provided students and staff a chance to receive compelling learning experiences while learning about Sustainable Development Goals.
Expanding Reach and Impact in 2023
The 2023 initiative expanded the reach and impact of the overall programme compared to previous years. Providing essential teacher training in Arabic and English online reached an extensive group of teachers and students without added costs.
Each teacher received the necessary tools to complete projects with their fellow facilitators and training from their homes. The programme seeks to train teachers continuously; over 2,500 teachers and 15,000 students completed the task.
The iEARN-Qatar has arranged teachers and students with an international professional network. This allows Qatar to form a more powerful position among the influential decision-makers within the UN networks.
The iEARN-Qatar program promotes engaging cultural exchange while nurturing a generation of empathetic global citizens. Each teacher and student leave the program equipped to address our world's complex challenges. Students become change-makers by aligning projects with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, actively contributing to improving their communities and achieving a sustainable future.
