Hamad International Airport announced the renewal of its environmental sustainability commitments on World Environment Day. To align with the theme," Beat Plastic Pollution," Hamad Airport pushed its full support for initiatives to reduce plastic consumption and heat emissions as part of the country's drive to shift towards a circular economy.
The airport announced that it will recycle the equivalent of 40% of the airport's waste in the year 2022-2023, including 736 tons of plastic waste. In addition, it will use about 1,200 tons of non-recyclable waste in electric power generation projects.
The airport matched plastic replacement initiatives in the Oryx Airport Hotel, where they replaced plastic packaging with environmentally friendly ones. Additionally, they introduced bamboo cards for guest rooms and the reuse of 100% of the sewage water to irrigate the trees and plants inside the airport concourse.
The Carbon Emissions Certification Program for Airports issued by Airports Council International recognized the Hamad International Airport's efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. It gave them a renewal for the third level. The airport continues to work continuously to reduce energy consumption, rely on environmental solutions, and invest in the best technologies to achieve ecological goals aligned with With Qatar National Vision 2030.
