The Ministry of Municipality, through its Center for Geographic Information Systems, is currently participating in the International Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Conference, which is being organized by the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), in San Diego, California, USA, from July 10 to 14.

Over the past two days of the conference, the Ministry’s center has presented a number of services and applications that were developed before and during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. These tools and applications used by the Ministry to plan, follow up and coordinate activities during the event included high-resolution aerial images, digital topographic data, 3D models, and the design of location maps for World Cup planning.

The Ministry presentations also included a review of event sites, housing, training, kiosks, gardens, paths, and rainwater collection sites, with special services for the call center to receive requests and complaints, locate them according to coordinates and addresses, and determine the status of the request on the map.

During his keynote speech at the conference opening, ESRI President Jack Dangermond praised the State of Qatar’s achievements in the use of modern technologies for spatial and geographical data and to contribute to urban planning and decision-making.

The GIS Conference is the largest international event organized annually for spatial and geographic information systems technologies and their applications in various fields. The conference particularly focuses on modern technologies that contribute to countries’ development process, economic capacity-building and sustainable development.
