Doha, Qatar: The first-ever International ESG conference to deepen the understanding of implementing ESG standards across various sectors will take place in Doha on October 28-29, 2024.
The conference will be organised by Governance International and KyoSafe, with key support from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).
A press conference was held in Doha on October 15, bringing together the organisers and sponsors of the conference, including the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST), Aamal, and TechnoQ, to announce details of the conference.
Conference Chairperson H E Sheikha Amal bint Thamer Al Thani said the event is supported by RoSPA and aims to deepen the understanding of implementing ESG standards across various sectors, facilitating discussions on regulations, reporting, global integration, and innovative sustainability practices.
Sheikha Amal said, “This event is the first of its kind in Qatar, organised to discuss these standards and showcase international experiences from the US, Europe, and the Gulf, as well as local practices presented by Qatari institutions, universities, and companies.”
On this occasion, she invited directors of public companies, heads of regulatory bodies in Qatar, experts, and those interested in the field to attend and benefit from the insights of international experts representing institutions such as Columbia Business School, RoSPA, and Cranfield University, UK. Other speakers from the Gulf region will also be featured, while participants from Qatar will include Rashid Al Mansoori, CEO of Aamal; and Ziad Al Jaidah, CEO of TechnoQ; and others.
During the press conference, Rebecca Hickman, CEO of RoSPA in the UK, expressed her excitement about participating in the organisation of “this historic event, where renowned speakers from leading sectors and universities will come together to discuss the enhancement of best practices in ESG.”
Dr. Rachid Benlamri, Vice President, Academic Affairs at UDST, also took part in the press conference, representing the university, which is the gold sponsor of the conference. On behalf of the university’s President, Dr. Salem Al Naemi, he conveyed the President’s message: “We are pleased to be one of the sponsors of this significant conference and for the university to play a key role in the development of ESG standards in Qatar.”
Sheikh Tamim bin Faisal Al Thani, Deputy CEO of Aamal, stated: “These reports cover all the efforts made by the company and its subsidiaries in preserving the environment, in addition to initiatives that contribute to the development of the local community.”
Ashghal’s participation in the press conference was notable, with Dr. Abdulrazzaq Shaheen Al Kuwari, Head of the Laboratories Department, speaking at the event.
He stated: “We are pleased to participate as a gold sponsor in this press conference on ESG, to highlight the Public Works Authority’s efforts to promote sustainability and recycling, which align with our corporate strategy to achieve the third National Development Strategy (2024-2030).”
Ziad Al Jaidah, CEO of TechnoQ, the latest company to join the Qatar Stock Exchange as a start-up, also participated in the press conference. Al Jaidah stated that TechnoQ’s sponsorship of the ESG conference stems from the company’s strong commitment to sustainability standards.
