Opening of United Nations House in Doha... An Important Step for International Cooperation

The State of Qatar affirmed that the recent opening of the United Nations House in Doha, which includes a number of offices and agencies of the United Nations, is an important step to enhance international multilateral cooperation by implementing programs concerned with technical cooperation and capacity-building in a number of fields.

This came in the statement of the State of Qatar delivered by Mr. Nasser Khamis Al Mansouri, Second Secretary at the Department of Human Rights at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the enhanced interactive dialogue on the report of the High Commissioner on technical cooperation and capacity building, before the Human Rights Council at its 53rd session.

The House, which opened earlier this year, serves as an important platform for all UN agencies to facilitate cooperation with the State of Qatar in the country and region.

Al-Mansoori stressed the importance of giving all human rights the same amount of attention in of providing technical assistance and capacity-building, whether they be political, civil, economic, social and cultural rights, as well as the right to development. Al-Mansoori likewise stressed the importance of treating them all on an equal footing, within the framework of objective dialogue and constructive positive cooperation, which takes into account states' wishes, priorities and requests.

He drew attention to the State of Qatar's keen interest to enhance its cooperation with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and support it in fulfilling its mandate with regard to providing technical assistance and capacity building. In this regard, he noted the continuation of its contributions to the Office of the High Commissioner for the implementation of a number of programs, in the context of the work of the United Nations Training and Documentation Center in Doha.
