The State of Qatar strongly supports the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation’s (Unido) noble aim of achieving industrial development that is sustainable and universal to all, and especially developing countries.
This affirmation came in a statement delivered by HE Sultan bin Salmeen al-Mansouri, the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Federal Republic of Austria, and the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna, before the 51st session of the Unido Industrial Development Board (IDB), currently being held from July 3-5 in the Austrian capital.
The Ambassador continued “From the starting point of its National Vision 2030, which upholds the high values and principles of cooperation and solidarity in helping societies, peoples, and states which suffer from humanitarian crises, conflict, poverty and debts, the State of Qatar has presented many development contributions according to bi-lateral, regional and multilateral agreements, especially in the framework of its strategic partnerships with the United Nations and other leading international organizations.”
Earlier this year, Doha hosted the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) in March. The conference came one year after the Doha Programme of Action (DPoA) was adopted to accelerate sustainable development in the world’s poorest 46 countries. The conference ended with a number of countries and international countries making substantial pledges of financial contributions. Qatar for its part announced a financial package of $60 million: 10 million to support the implementation of the DPoA, and 50 million to help build resilience in the LDCs.
The Minister pointed out that Qatar relies on a long-term vision of human, social, economic and environmental development, and is open to cooperation with Unido in the field of advising on Qatar's industrial policies.
