The State of Qatar on Thursday participated in the Ministerial virtual meeting to announce the launch of the Global Coalition to Address Synthetic Drug Threats.
Illicitly-manufactured synthetic drugs increasingly make up a major global issue. Due to its complex nature at the intersection of public health and criminal justice, the issue demands wide cooperation between law enforcement, regulatory, and public health entities, domestically and globally. As such, the Global Coalition is set to hold further meetings on the sidelines of major international events.
HE Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater, Minister of State for International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented Qatar in the meeting.
In her speech to the meeting, Her Excellency stated that the gathering aimed to develop comprehensive strategies in order to effectively address the production and trafficking of illicit synthetic drugs, stressing in this context the need for a multifaceted approach, with a focus on prevention, law enforcement, international cooperation and public awareness.
The Minister expressed the State of Qatar's praise for these important efforts for cooperation to address the serious threat illegal synthetic drugs pose to public health and safety. Her Excellency expressed Qatar’s aspiration to work and cooperate, with all partners, on innovative international policies to combat the trafficking of synthetic drugs.
