The State of Qatar’s National Vision 2030 prioritizes developing an effective social system that safeguards citizens’ rights, enhances their communal participation, and secures a decent standard of living, thereby ensuring collective dignity and health.
These comments came within a statement delivered by Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Mansoori, the Third Secretary of the permanent delegation of the State of Qatar in Geneva, on the occasion of the Annual Full-Day Discussion on the Human Rights of Women within the framework of the 53rd Session of the Human Rights Council in the Swiss capital.
The social protection system, guaranteed to all Qatari citizens, includes social security services provided by the Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF), employment services for social security recipients, and professional services offered by the Qatar Social Work Foundation.
Speaking on the second panel “Social Protection: Women's Participation and Leadership”, Al Mansoori noted the special interest Qatar’s social protection system gives to Qatari women, pointing out that the Social Security Law of 1995, along with other decisions and laws stipulates clear rights for women in the retirement and pension system, housing services and other realms.
Al Mansoori emphasized that the State of Qatar has devoted attention to promoting opportunities, including capacity-building training, for Qatari women to have full access to good education and positions in the civil service, labor market and leadership.
He pointed out that the State of Qatar has appointed three female ministers, namely the Minister of Public Health, Minister of Education and Higher Education, and Minister of Social Development and Family, in addition to electing a Qatari woman to the position of Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council.
He added that Qatari women hold senior positions in the State of Qatar's diplomatic missions abroad, in addition to holding membership in a number of UN committees and committees operating in the domain of human rights.
