His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani issued Amiri Resolution No. 29 of 2023 to establish the Qatar National Archive to ensure Qatari heritage is preserved locally and globally.
The Qatar National Archive, affiliated with the Amiri Diwan, hopes to preserve Qatar's historical memory and national identity. Aiming to document Qatar's long-standing record, one of its responsibilities will be identifying which documents have significant historical value.
The Center will require extensive organizing, collecting, and preserving documents and manuscripts. In addition, the Center will work to enable and provide access to information and records to the public. The process will involve surveying which ministries and other government agencies can access documents.
Further research will identify archives outside the State of Qatar and establish ways that enable the Center to obtain access for additional preservation. The Center will create necessary standards and policies to organize and manage the State of Qatar's public, private, and historical documents.
The Qatar National Archive will also work to highlight the cultural and scientific value of these documents. By creating a central resource for the public, the Center will give researchers greater access to necessary historical documents. Archivists will conduct research studies to spread further awareness of the importance of preserving cultural heritage.
